Workshop: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Have you tried a teaching technique in your classroom and wondered how it was working? Have you thought about how you might improve student learning? Maybe you want to explore the impact of your teaching beyond asking students about their impressions of the learning experience? Perhaps you’ve thought about applying the principles of research that you use in your discipline to studying teaching and learning?

In this active and collaborative workshop, we will explore the principles and practices of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning– conducting and sharing research on the teaching practice and student learning that occurs in our classrooms.

After completing the workshop, you will be able to:

  • -Describe the basic processes of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • -Compare and contrast examples of various methods of conducting this type of research.
  • -Develop preliminary Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research questions related to your courses.
  • -Draft ideas for methods to answer those research questions.
